About
Timber Expo Southeast, the South’s original live logging equipment demo, is returning to south Georgia (Baxley) in 2009. It will coincide with the April 17-18 Baxley TreeFest, an annual celebration of the community’s forest legacy.
Originating in Tifton, Ga. in 1974, the show was held at various Georgia locations until it settled in Baxley for highly successful runs in 1998, 2000 and 2002 under the auspices of Hatton-Brown Publishers, Inc., parent company of Southern Loggin’ Times and Timber Harvesting magazines. Those shows attracted an average of 2,500 visitors—mostly loggers, their families and employees—and 50 exhibitors representing dozens of brands of products, supplies and services.
Since no show of its type has been held in this part of the Southeast since 2002, and since loggers and the forestry equipment community anticipate a market upturn beginning in early ‘09, the timing for the show’s revival appears to be on target. Timber Expo Southeast is the only live Southern forestry equipment show scheduled in 2009. It’s an ideal opportunity for manufacturers and dealers to demonstrate or display products as mills turn up production, new markets (biomass, clearing operations) draw nearer and loggers regroup and begin replacing aging equipment and embracing new technology.
Baxley is a timber town with a rich forest legacy. It’s home to Georgia’s largest sawmill and a new wood pellet plant. There are scores of mills and hundreds of loggers and equipment companies doing business within 100 miles. Within a comfortable driving distance of 350 miles there are some 4400 loggers, 200 mills and dozens of forestry equipment dealers.
The time is right and the location is outstanding. Invest now and grow toward tomorrow. Timber Expo Southeast: the future is calling.
